IAGA Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the opening of the grup exhibition Crossing Time, curated by Liviu Bulea
Crossing Time brings together a selection of modern and contemporary Italian artists in a dialogue that transcends generations. By presenting works by pivotal figures of the 20th century alongside those of today's emerging and mid-career voices, the exhibition explores the evolving language of Italian art and its enduring capacity for experimentation, reflection, and transformation.
The exhibition features seminal modern artists; Dadamaino, Bruno Munari, Mimmo Rotella. Gino De Dominicis, Mimmo Paladino, Mario Schifano, Emilio Scanavino, Emilio Vedova whose groundbreaking practices helped redefine the boundaries of visual art in post-war Italy. Their legacy is one of innovation: a commitment to material inquiry, spatial exploration, and conceptual depth that continues to resonate today.
Alongside them, contemporary artists Francesco Arecco, Pierluca Cetera, Francesco Fossati, Silvia Inselvini, Marcello De Angelis, Francesca Pasquali, Fernando De Filippi and Giorgio Tentolini represent a new wave of creative expression.
Engaged with diverse media and themes, these artists address questions of perception, memory, ecology, identity, and the poetic potential of form and gesture. Their works reflect the complexity of our present moment while maintaining a strong awareness of the cultural and artistic heritage that precedes them.
Rather than framing modern and contemporary as separate or opposing categories, Crossing Time proposes continuity a layered narrative where different temporalities coexist and inform one another. The decision to bring these artists together is not merely historical but conceptual: to offer a space where the boldness of the past meets the urgency of the present, and where new meanings emerge from their intersection.
Through this intergenerational conversation, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on how Italian art continues to reinvent itself, rooted in tradition, yet always pushing forward.
About the curator
Liviu Bulea (b. 1989, Turda, Romania) is a Romanian artist, curator, and cultural manager working at the intersection of contemporary art and social activism. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Refugiu de Creatie, an NGO that develops cultural programs, exhibitions, and workshops aimed at fostering inclusive artistic communities.
His curatorial and editorial work includes roles at Visual Kontakt Gallery, Iaga Contemporary Art, and Gay45 magazine. Bulea’s art has been exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Urban Nation Museum (Berlin), Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), MUMOK (Vienna), and the National Museums of Art in Cluj, Bucharest, and Sibiu.
His works are held in notable public collections, including the European Investment Bank (Luxembourg), the National Museum of Contemporary Art (Bucharest), Schwules Museum (Berlin), Queer Museum (Bucharest), and the Tom of Finland Foundation (Los Angeles).
He has participated in international artist residencies supported by organizations such as KulturKontakt Austria, Stiftung Berliner Leben, and the Austrian Chancellery. Currently, Bulea is pursuing a PhD at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, focusing on the role of art in social change.
IAGA Contemporary Art
IAGA Contemporary Art Gallery was founded in 2014 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in the Transylvanian region, by Alberto Perobelli—an entrepreneur and collector of modern and contemporary art. Starting from his collection of works by the great masters of the Italian postwar period, Perobelli’s activity in Romania led him to explore the practices and languages of young local artists. This exploration inspired the creation of a gallery dedicated to giving voice to their work, fostering a thoughtful and original dialogue with artists from other Eastern European countries, as well as emerging and mid-career Italian artists.
Since its founding, the gallery has developed an intense and consistent program, hosting six exhibitions per year and actively participating in art fairs across Northeastern Europe, while maintaining a strong presence at Italian art fairs.
Today, the gallery is coordinated by Liviu Bulea, who continues to advance its mission by supporting contemporary artistic practices and promoting meaningful cross-cultural exchange.

The exhibition can be visited free of charge from Tuesday to Saturday, between 2:00 and 6:00 PM, or by appointment.
